Investigative Exercise 1: Blogs Sarah Houghton-Jan.
This blog appears to mostly be a useful source of information for library workers of what the public in general has come to expect from libraries and how they can use modern technology’s to draw the general public back to libraries it contains slides show that talk at length about web 2.0 and how it can be uses in the library, how the library should view the public and alia issues
below each blog there is the opportunity for each reader to leave questions of issues related to the post for the blog writer to look over and answer
The post I am looking at involves some of the issues that people have stated over and over again tend to drive them away from library or make them less willing to use the library’s resources for example the information desk
She does this by quoting Behemoth a new steam punk fiction book written by scott Westerfield the quote relate the main character’s experiences with a fictional library drawing close parrels to real life modern libraries
She ends the post by giving the reader an opportunity to think about the different obstacles in their own library that might be alienating the public

Investigative Exercise 1: Blogs John Oxley Library
The blog as a whole does a very good job at raising awareness of some of the libraries extensive collection of historical records, photographs and collection of personal belongings from previous generations as well as discussing resent events at the library
Each post is centred around of different topic or issue including historical information as well as notes on where to find information related to this topic within the library for an intuition with what is obviously a wide and varied collection this is an effective tool to raise awareness of what the library has to offer
This particular post discusses the temperance movement in Australia particularly in Brisbane this short entry gives the reader an intimate sense of events with exerts from people’s diaries and newspaper clippings while prompting the reader within a list of the sources used to gather this information
Each post is centred around of different topic or issue including historical information as well as notes on where to find information related to this topic within the library for an intuition with what is obviously a wide and varied collection this is an effective tool to raise awareness of what the library has to offer
